This course will focus on bloodstain and pattern identification. After completing this training students will be better equipped to.

  • Identify and classify bloodstains and bloodstain patterns, and to identify blood impact spatter patterns

  • Calculate bloodstain angles of impact and impact spatter pattern area of origin

  • Interpret bloodstain relationships at a scene and to use bloodstains in event sequencing and reconstruction.

  • Document, photography, and collect bloodstains.

Instructor Bio:

Jeffrey Gentry has a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. He has worked in law enforcement as a Deputy Coroner Medicolegal Death Investigator for over 13 years. Jeffrey is an ABMDI certified death investigator and has investigated over 2,500 complex medicolegal deaths. Jeffrey specializes in Bloodstain Pattern Analysis and is an IAI certified Bloodstain Pattern Analyst. Jeffrey has worked as a chemist in a Forensic Toxicology laboratory and has taught college level Forensic Science and Mathematics. He has given multiple lectures on Forensic Science and death investigation and has worked as a Sheriff’s Office Explorer Program Advisor. Jeffrey prepares annual coroner statistical reports and enjoys training new death investigators
